Repair MSN Premium

Posted on 09:34 by Unknown

MSN Premium, an Internet service by Microsoft, lets you access the Internet, download files and transmit emails as well as chat with others via the MSN Messenger service. But like other Internetservices, problems do arise including Internet connection and timeout errors. These problems can put a halt on your file downloads, email transmissions and website searches, but you can repair your computer's MSN Premium application and Internet connection using the service's MSN Auto Care package.

Open your computer's Internet browser.

Note, if your MSN Premium service is not working, you will need to use a friend's or family member's computer that is connected to the Internet.

Click on the "MSN Auto Care" link in the Resources section of this article to access the MSN Auto Care download page.

Click on the "Download on Windows XP or later" link if you are using a Windows Vista, 7 or XP-based system. Click on the "Download on earlier versions of Windows" link if you are using a Windows 98 or earlier Windows-based system.

Click on "Save As," "Save" or "Save All" when prompted with the "Opening acliteinstaller.exe" dialog box.
If you are downloading the file onto a friend's or family member's computer, proceed to the next step. If not, proceed to the "Installing & Running MSN Auto Care"

Insert a blank CD into your friends or family member's computer's CD-Writer drive or plug a USB flash drive into any available USB port on the computer. Click "Start," then "My Computer." Double click on the CD-Writer or USB flash drive's icon to open its Explorer window. Leave this window open.
Navigate to the directory containing the MSN Auto Care file. Click and drag the "acliteinstaller.exe" file to the CD-Writer or USB flash drive's Explorer window.

Click on "Write these files to CD" in the left pane of the CD's window, if using a CD. The "CD Writing Wizard" will open. Click "Next" to burn the CD.

Click on the "Safely Remove Hardware" (two-arrow icon) located on your computer's Taskbar, if using a USB flash drive. Click on your flash drive's name. Click "Stop." Remove the flash drive from your computer's USB port when your computer's speaker dings.

Place the CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive or plug the USB flash drive into any available USB port on your computer.

Proceed to the "Installing & Running MSN Auto Care" section

Enable ActiveX Control in Outlook

Posted on 09:32 by Unknown
Occasionally when using Microsoft Outlook, you may receive an error message telling you that your security settings do not allow ActiveX controls. This can prevent you from using formatted text and animations in your email. Enabling ActiveX will correct these errors and allow you to use the full functionality of Outlook.

Instructions

Determine your version of Outlook. Open your Outlook program. At the top of your screen you will find a tab labeled "Help." Click this tab and select "About Microsoft Outlook." This will display your version number. You can also see this information when your program loads.
Change the security zone in early versions of Outlook like Outlook 98 and 2000. Open your version of Outlook. Select a tab at the top of the page marked "Tools" and then choose "Options." Select "Security" to change the zone. If you are in a restricted zone, change to a trusted zone and ActiveX will be enabled.

Enable ActiveX when the security prompt appears. A message will appear under the menu bar. Click the "Options" button. A dialogue box will appear and you can choose to enable the content. This works in Microsoft Outlook version 2007.

Accept ActiveX content when prompted in the dialogue box. When the dialogue box appears, select "OK" to view the content.

Outlook requires Outlook Express 4.01

Posted on 09:31 by Unknown
Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Outlook requires Microsoft Outlook Express 4.01 or greater. You can install Outlook Express by running Add/Remove Programs from the Control Panel. You could try searching Microsoft's knowledge-base, only to find the solutions apply to Windows 2000. And Outlook Express is installed and running just fine and you're running Windows XP! So, what to do? Read on for some resolutions to this issue.

Instructions

Click Start>Run>type regedit and hit Enter. Navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{44BBAB40-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B6015C}.

Highlight the registry key and then locate the REG_DWORD values is Installed under Microsoft Outlook Express 6 and Mail News. If either of the values are set to 0, change them to 1. To do this, right click on the REG_DWORD values and select Modify. In the Value Data form field, enter 1 and click OK. Close out regedit and start Outlook.

Download POP3 or IMAP mailboxes (including SSL) to Exchange Server.
But wait! I have the registry key {44BBAB40-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B6015C}but it's in a folder called AutorunsDisabled listed at the bottom of Installed Components. Good; this step applies to you then. Download and install the program Autoruns listed in the resources section (or if you ran Autoruns, run it again).

Locate the file Autoruns.zip. Right-click the file and then click "Extract All..." and save the file in the default location. Click the "Extract" button. The Autoruns folder opens. Double-click Autoruns.exe. Click "Run." Now, locate the registry key mentioned in Step 1. Place a check next to each entry of Outlook. Close out of Autoruns and double-click on your Outlook icon to start Outlook.
